Sunset Steam Special at Mount Washington Cog Railway

We passed a down-bound diesel train on the “double track” at Waumbek Tank, after passing through the massive new hydraulic switch; we took water and continued up the “new track” (new mileage, anyone?) to the upper switch. Back on single track, we climbed past the Halfway House and across Jacob’s Ladder trestle. (Yes – we still try to stand up at a 33-degree angle while on the trestle!) On the “Long Trestle,” we entered swirling clouds that engulfed us all the way to the summit. At Skyline Siding, we met another down-bound train, watching our brakeman throw the last “old-style” switch on the railway to line us up for the summit.
