on the Providence & Worcester Railroad
(Boston) - Worcester - Providence, RI - Cranston - Groton, CT - Norwich - Plainfield - Putnam - Worcester Saturday, October 17, 2015 ONLY!! Mass Bay RRE’s popular ‘Fall Circle Tour’ over the Providence & Worcester Railroad and Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor returns for its seventh season this October. Our exclusive specially-chartered all-day rail outing will follow a unique routing that includes the Blackstone River Valley, the scenic seascapes of the Connecticut shoreline, the Thames River and the mill towns of eastern Connecticut. The ‘Fall Circle Tour’ departs from the P&W’s operating headquarters on Hammond Street in Worcester, MA at 8:30 AM. After picking up passengers at Worcester’s restored Union Station we’ll travel down the P&W’s main line through Millbury and Woonsocket to Providence, RI, where we’ll join Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor for the westbound run to Groton, CT, passing through some of the most scenic coastal portions of this route. There our train will turn north onto the P&W’s Norwich Branch, skirting the eastern shore of the Thames River to Norwich, CT. We’ll pass through the mill towns of Plainfield and Putnam before returning to Worcester at approximately 5:30 PM. Two photo stops are planned along the way. Our train will consist of the P&W’s excursion fleet of refurbished former Amtrak passenger equipment. In addition to standard coach seats, (below, far left), Deluxe Coach seating is available in the parlor car “Massachusetts” (below, center left) for a modest additional fare. First-Class seating in swivel chairs is available in the parlor car “Massachusetts”(below, center right) or in lounge chairs in the observation car “New Englander” (below, far right). The Deluxe and First-Class fares include complimentary light snack and beverage service throughout the trip. Box lunches, catered by Gerard’s of Dorchester, are available for advance purchase, or you may bring your own food. Also, the snack counter in the dining car of our train will offer freshly-cooked hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, snacks and beverages. All seats are reserved and assigned in advance. Passengers wishing to sit together should order tickets together as a group.
The P&W ‘Fall Circle Tour’ operates ONE DAY ONLY, rain or shine. All sales are final and tickets are not refundable. Alcoholic beverages and smoking will not be permitted aboard this train. Tickets will be mailed to you in early October along with driving directions to the departure point in Worcester. Special discounted fares are available for Mass Bay RRE members only. Please notify us before ordering if special accommodations (handicap seating, etc.) are required. THE COMMUTER RAIL CONNECTION from BOSTON & WESTERN SUBURBS: Make a direct connection to our Fall Circle Tour at Worcester Union Station! Take MBTA train 1501 from Boston & western suburbs to Worcester (departs South Station 6:40 AM, arrives Worcester 8:10 AM); our hosts will guide you to an adjacent platform where you’ll board our special train. Return to Boston on train 1512 departing Worcester at 6:30 PM. Or, take the train to Framingham and enjoy dinner at the Deluxe Depot Diner, conveniently located inside the H.H. BOX LUNCHES: The box lunch from Gerard's of Dorchester will consist of two finger sandwiches (one ham & cheese, one turkey), Cape Cod potato chips, seedless grapes, cole slaw, deluxe brownie and bottled water. Passengers are encouraged to swap sandwiches to obtain a matched set if desired. ACCOMMODATIONS IN & AROUND WORCESTER: There are a number of major hotels in a variety of price ranges located in Worcester and in Auburn, which is south of Worcester along the Massachusetts Turnpike at I-290.
