All Aboard for Mass Bay RRE’s exclusive Winter Photo Spectacular 'Covered Wagons in the Snow' (Boston) - North Conway, NH - Notchland & Return with restored Boston & Maine F7A Locomotives 4266 & 4268 Saturday, January 7, 2023 ONLY!! Mass Bay RRE’s popular winter photo special train excursion on the Conway Scenic Railroad returns in January with a twist - a matched pair of classic diesel locomotives! Our unique event features multiple photo stops and photo runbys starring the 470 Railroad Club's restored Boston & Maine F7A locos 4268 and 4266, running back-to-back the way EMD intended. Our excursion departs from the Conway Scenic’s landmark North Conway station promptly at 10:30 AM, heading north and west through Bartlett to Notchland. There we’ll reverse direction, with the two cab units leading us back to North Conway. Along the way we'll make a number of stops, some accessible only by train, so passengers can photograph and take videos of the train. We'll have the engines "pointed southward" throughout the trip for great photos in the mid-day light. This could be your best opportunity ever to photograph these classic locos in action together! Our return to North Conway is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
SEATING ACCOMMODATIONS This year, our train will feature two dome cars. The Rhonda Lee, has table seating in the dome (right photo) and lower level (left photo) , with table seating for parties of up to 4 passengers. Note: Rhonda Lee Upper Dome seats are sold out as of 12/12/2022. Lower level table seats still available.
The dome car Dorthea Mae features comfortable seats on the dome level, grouped in compartments seating four (left photo). At one end of the main level, the deluxe Screening Room (right) offers comfortable swivel chairs and a flat-screen monitor showing a video feed of the train's progress. Also on the main level are 24 spacious reclining seats grouped in facing pairs (not shown). The First-Class fare in both dome cars includes a complementary snack and beverage package for each passenger. Note: Dorthea Mae Screening Room seats are sold out.
The deluxe coach CP Reed features facing pairs of reclining seats in compartments (doors have been removed ) that seat parties of up to 4 (right).
The remaining cars in our train will be one or more of the Conway Scenic's 6700-series coaches, with unreserved seats with walkover seatbacks so riders can always face forward (left). All cars are heated and rest rooms are available on board. All seats will be assigned in advance, except in the 6700-series coaches, where seats are unreserved. Passengers wishing to sit together must order tickets together at the same time as part of the same order! Mass Bay RRE and 470 Club members will receive discounted fares and preferred seating (subject to availability). Box lunches are available for advance purchase only, or you may bring your own food. Box lunches include sandwich, pickle, chips, cookie, and water (subject to change). Also, the Conway Scenic Railroad will offer light snack and hot & cold beverage service during our trip.
