Don’t Miss Mass Bay RRE’s Rare Mileage
‘Fall River Extra’
Special Train Excursion from Middleboro, MA to Cotley Junction & Fall River
Saturday, April 21, 2012 ONLY!!
Friday April 6 Update: The 'Fall River Extra' is now completely SOLD OUT. We have established a waiting list in case there are any cancellations. To be placed on the waiting list please call 978-470-2066.
CHANGE IN TRIP OPERATIONS:
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we will be unable to operate this excursion between Cotley and Attleboro as originally announced. The train WILL OPERATE Middleboro - Cotley - Fall River as planned. The rest of this page has been updated to reflect these changes.
We have revised the train's schedule accordingly, and have reduced adult fares to $60 for Mass Bay members and $70 for non-members. Also, we have confirmed that weekend commuter rail service on the Middleboro line WILL BE SUSPENDED beginning March 17. Our connecting bus service will be offered from South Station (departs 8:15 AM) and Braintree (departs 8:30 AM)
Passengers who have already purchased tickets for the Fall River Extra and do not wish to do the trip because of these change may request a refund by calling 978-470-2066. Passengers who have paid by credit card will have their cards charged for the reduced fare. Passengers who have already paid by check will have the fare difference refunded aboard the train. We regret any inconvenience.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to ride over rail lines in southeastern Massachusetts that have not seen a passenger train in many years. Mass Bay RRE’s specially-chartered ‘Fall River Extra’ train continues our 77-year-old tradition of offering special train excursions to the public.
Our train will depart from the MBTA’s Middleboro/Lakeville commuter rail station at 10:00 AM. Boston-area passengers may connect to the train via our connecting bus from Boston & Braintree. From Middleboro we’ll head west to the junction at Cotley, in the city of Taunton. There we’ll reverse direction, heading southward to Myricks and Fall River, and making several photo stops along the way. At Fall River we’ll have time to visit the Old Colony & Fall River Railroad Museum or the Marine Museum of Fall River before our train returns to Middleboro, arriving there around 5:30 PM.
This will be the first publicly-offered passenger train to go all the way to Fall River since our October, 1967 “Newport Special” excursion, , when our two chartered New Haven RDCs went all the way to Newport, RI.
Our train will consist of dining cars from the Cape Cod Central Railroad’s dinner train. Additional coaches have been added due to popular demand. Current Mass Bay RRE members are eligible for reduced fares. See our member benefits policy for complete details
Train capacity is limited! We will assign seats by car only and will reserve blocks of seats for groups of four or more. Passengers wishing to sit together must order tickets together at the same time. Box lunches are available for advance purchase, or you may bring your own food. Light snack and beverage service will be available on board the train.
This trip operates ONE DAY ONLY, rain or shine. All sales are final and tickets are not refundable. Alcoholic beverages may not be brought aboard, and smoking will not be permitted aboard this train. Tickets will be mailed to you about 10 days prior to the trip. We will send driving directions to the departure points with your tickets. Please notify us if special accommodations (ie, handicap seating, etc.) are required.
THE MIDDLEBORO CONNECTION
Weekend commuter rail service to Middleboro will be temporarily suspended beginning March 17 due to ongoing track improvements on the Middleboro line. Mass Bay RRE will offer a bus connection to and from our train from Boston’s South Station (departing Summer Street at 8:15 AM) and the MBTA Red Line Station in Braintree (departing 8:40 AM). On the return trip the connecting service will leave Middleboro immediately after the arrival of our special train and will return to South Station around 6:30 PM. The round-trip bus fare is $20, just slightly more than the equivalent commuter rail fare would have been.
The ‘Early Escape’ Option
Immediately upon our train’s arrival in Fall River, our ‘Early Escape’ van or bus will whisk you back to Middleboro, arriving there around 2:00 PM.
