Take a scenic train ride along the Connecticut River in northern Vermont!

'Green Knight Train'
on Vermont's Washington County Railroad

(Boston) White River Junction, VT – Wells River, VT & Return

Saturday, June 15, 2019 ONLY!

ADDITIONAL COACH ADDED - PLENTY OF SEATS AVAILABLE!

Green Mountain RR trainMass Bay RRE, in cooperation with Green Knight Train, LLC (a group of Dartmouth alums) offers a specially-chartered train excursion over the former Connecticut & Passumpsic Rivers RR from White River Junction to Wells River, VT and return. Known as the “Pompey Line,” this ex-Boston & Maine route now belongs to the State of Vermont, which leases it to the Vermont Rail System’s Washington County Railroad. The “Pompey” once handled B&M's Day White Mountains Express between New York and Berlin, NH, with connections to Quebec points. This will be the first public passenger train to cover the full length of the “Pompey” in several years.

The ‘Green Knight Train’ leaves at 10:30 AM from the 1937 Colonial-style Amtrak station in White River Junction. On our way north, we will pass Norwich, with Dartmouth College just across the Connecticut River, Pompanoosuc (which gave the “Pompey” its nickname), Fairlee, Bradford and Newbury before reaching the once-busy junction of Wells River. Here we will reverse direction and head south for an anticipated 4:30 PM return to White River Jct. The trip will include limited photo stops, subject to weather, schedule and operating conditions.

Coach seatsTable carThis specially-chartered excursion will consist of coaches (left) and table cars (right) from the Green Mountain Railroad's “Green Fleet” of restored vintage passenger cars. Train capacity is limited! We will assign seats by car only and will reserve blocks of seats for groups of four or more; passengers wishing to sit together should order tickets at the same time. Box lunches are available for advance purchase, or you may bring your own. Limited snack and beverage service will be available aboard the train.

Mass Bay RRE members are eligible for discounted fares, as described in our Member Benefits policy. See our membership page for complete membership information. (Mass Bay RRE membership is not necessary to ride this trip.)

This trip operates ONE DAY ONLY, rain or shine. All sales are final and tickets are not refundable. Alcoholic beverages and smoking will not be permitted aboard this train. Tickets will be mailed to you in early June. Directions to the departure location in White River Junction will be sent with your tickets. Please notify us before ordering if special accommodations (handicap seating, etc.) are required.
