Steam In the Snow

Riders squeeze onto snow banks or spread out on the "dump road" north of the tracks. In full daylight, we'd be shooting into the sun, but winter clouds have flattened the light. Reporter Lorna Colquohoun of the Manchester Union Leader, riding with us, takes a photo that will appear full-size in the local news of Monday's paper. Back-platform riders on Gertrude Emma can photograph the photographers on each 'going-away' move. 573 lurks in the distance, its headlight just visible (to part of the photo line).
