Detraining between cabooses at Tilton.

After the camera-toters had their fun, we climbed aboard for a slow run south, first along Winnisquam Lake, then beside the Winnipesaukee River into Tilton. Here we passed through the "caboose cluster" outside the restored Northfield freight house, and pulled down to the start of New England Southern territory. Freshly repainted NEGS GP39-2 2370, ex-Union Pacific 2370, exx-Missouri-Kansas-Texas 379, coupled on ahead and took us south on rehabilitated track, often close by 1-93 (which is built on part of the original railroad grade). Besides filling washouts and inserting new ties, the track crew has repainted the granite mileposts - they still show the mileage to Concord, but no longer the old Boston, Concord & Montreal distances to faraway Groveton!
