The Day Cape Codder

Back at Buzzards Bay, we unloaded riders east of the Academy Road grade crossing for a photo runby (right, from the bridge), then backed down, reboarded them, and headed across the Canal – a first for some “mileage collectors,” who came from all over the country to ride our special. At Canal Switch, we turned down the freight-only Falmouth Branch, which now ends at West Falmouth. (Our 1980s trips did reach Falmouth – but the right-of-way has since become a railless, paved-over bike-path …). After changing ends, we headed back, stopping at Monk’s Cove for a double runby. As we waited for our next “time window” to cross the Canal, we ran back to West Falmouth, then on to Canal Switch, and out on the lift span far enough to clear the junction.
