Canaan Union Station and its Weathervane.

We left the rebuilt station at Canaan - half destroyed by fire in 2001, and lovmgly rebuilt smce then - a few minutes past the announced departure time of 10 A.M. The weather was less promising than 2008's brilliant morning sun, and our total ridership was down - perhaps because of the economy, or perhaps because a Metro-North special in October 2005 had covered the same "rare mileage" between Danbury and Canaan. But the comfortably full train's riders were content to roll south with their windows open - unlike MNR's sealed-can consist - past HRRC's shops south of the token Canaan diamond. HRRC does not currently operate freight trains on Saturday, so we had the railroad to ourselves.
