Mass Bay RRE returns to Vermont this June with our ‘Rutland Rocket’ train excursion over the Vermont Railway’s Green Mountain Railroad main line from Bellows Falls to the railroad's hub in Rutland. This exclusive specially-chartered train continues our 79-year tradition of offering distinctive rail excursions to the public.

Our train will depart from the Amtrak Station in Bellows Falls at 9:30 AM. We’ll head northwest over the VRS’s Green Mountain Railroad toward Chester, passing the newly-reconstructed Bartonsville Covered Bridge along the way. We'll continue on to Rutland, climbing the 2% grade through Ludlow to Summit. From there we descend another 2% grade, crossing the photogenic Cuttingsville Trestle. After a two-hour layover in Rutland our train will depart for the return trip to Bellows Falls, with an estimated arrival around 6:30 PM.

This will be the first Mass Bay RRE excursion over the Green Mountain Railroad since our 'Whitehall Flyer' excursion back in May, 2004. Our train will consist of coaches and table cars from the Green Mountain Railroad. Motive power is expected to be Green Mountain Alco RS-1 405.

Train capacity is limited! We will assign seats by car only and will reserve blocks of seats for groups of four or more. Passengers wishing to sit together must order tickets together at the same time. Box lunches from Gerard’s of Dorchester are available for advance purchase, or you may bring your own food or dine out during our layover in Rutland. Light snack and beverage service will be available on board the train.

This trip operates ONE DAY ONLY, rain or shine. All sales are final and tickets are not refundable. Alcoholic beverages may not be brought aboard, and smoking will not be permitted aboard this train. Tickets will be mailed to you about 10 days prior to the trip. We will send driving directions to the departure points with your tickets. Please notify us if special accommodations (ie, handicap seating, etc.) are required.

The Boston Connection Package:
Sit back and leave the driving to us! Our connecting motor coach package from Boston, leaving South Station at 6:00 AM and the Anderson RTC in Woburn at 6:15 AM, offers a guaranteed connection with our train at Bellows Falls. Our rest-room and video-equipped motor coach will leave Bellows Falls shortly after our train’s arrival and will return to the Boston area around 9:30 PM. The Boston Connection Package also includes a box breakfast in the morning and reserved coach seating aboard the train.

BOX LUNCHES:
The box lunch from Gerard's of Dorchester includes: two half sandwiches (one ham & cheese, one turkey), Cape Cod potato chips, seedless grapes, cole slaw, deluxe brownie and a beverage. Box lunches must be ordered at the time train tickets are ordered.
