Ornamental ironwork supports the canopies of the restored Hartford Union Station.

The Griffin's Local

Our train consist (in order, walking north from the Hartford station platform) was CNZR EMD GP-20 3006, table car Birkin, coach Pine, and GP-9 3760. The train was positioned on the New Britain Secondary Track (in Conrail-era terminology) that now ends at a bumper post just beyond the north end of the Hartford Union Station’s center platform. (The New Britain Secondary was removed from the north end of Hartford station to New Britain several years ago.) The Central New England had made special arrangements with Amtrak for the excursion trains to depart from Union Station, and had carefully prepared the site, raising the ground level with fresh stone to effectively extend the station platform to the vestibule of the first car.
