‘Newport & Narragansett Bay Special’
Boston to Newport, RI & The Hummocks & Return
Saturday, June 6, 2015 - One Day Only!

GOOD SEATS STILL AVAILABLE - ORDER TODAY!

Cape Cod Central TrainMassachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts kicks off its 2015 excursion schedule with a train-and-motorcoach tour from the Boston metropolitan area to Newport, RI on Saturday, June 6, 2015, featuring a five-hour, specially chartered train ride over the Newport & Narragansett Bay Railroad (formerly known as the Newport Dinner Train) along the shores of Narragansett Bay.

Our deluxe chartered motorcoach will leave Boston's South Station at 8:30 AM and the Braintree MBTA station at 8:45 AM and will go directly to Newport to board our special train.

The train will leave the N&NB Railroad’s operating headquarters in Melville at 10:45 AM and will travel along the spectacular shoreline of Narragansett Bay, covering all of the available operable track (about 12 miles) of the former Old Colony/New Haven/Penn Central rail line. From Melville, we’ll first head south to the end of the line at the Newport Depot on America’s Cup Avenue. Reversing direction, we’ll head north, passing through Melville on our way to The Hummocks at the western end of the vanished Tiverton Narrows swing bridge that once connected the railroad to the mainland. Along the way we'll stop for photos and video runbys at several scenic and historic sites. The train will return to Melville about 3:30 PM. After the train excursion, our motorcoach will return to Braintree & Boston, arriving at South Station about 6:00 PM.Newport Rail Map

Observation Car interior Our train will consist of two former BC Rail Budd Rail Diesel Cars. BC-15 is an RDC-1 that seats 60 in rows of 4 and at a few tables. BC-30 is an RDC-3 that seats 40 passengers at tables for four. These cars originally saw service in British Columbia. After BC Rail discontinued passenger service the cars went to the short-lived Wilton Scenic Railroad in New Hampshire. Following the Wilton Scenic’s demise, the cars were bought by the Newport dinner Train and barged to Aquidneck Island.

For passengers who wish to drive to Melville rather than ride our package tour, a limited number of "train-ride-only" tickets will be available.Box lunches are available for advance purchase, or passengers may bring their own lunch.

This trip will operate ONE DAY ONLY, rain or shine. Capacity for this unique event is strictly limited to only 100 passengers, so be sure to order your tickets right away.
