Who We Are

Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts, Inc. traces its beginnings to 1934, when our founders sponsored what TRAINS Magazine has called the world's first "railfan trip" on the now abandoned Hoosac Tunnel & Wilmington Railroad. Since then, we have sponsored hundreds of railfan excursions, many of them over "freight only" tracks. Our trips have covered almost every past or present New England rail route. Today, Mass Bay RRE continues to organize specially-chartered excursion trains in cooperation with Amtrak, the MBTA, and many other railroads in the Northeast.

Mass Bay RRE publishes a monthly newsletter, the CALLBOY, which is sent to all members. Each issue contains articles on the history and operations of railroads in New England, as well as a calendar of events for enthusiast activities. Some of our smaller capacity trips are advertised first to our members, prior to notifying the general public.

In addition, we hold monthly meetings which feature programs with speakers knowledgeable about railroad operations and rail travel. These meetings are customarily held a convenient locations in the Greater Boston area.

Mass Bay RRE is affiliated with The Railroad Enthusiasts, Inc., a national organization with divisions throughout the East and Midwest.
